The commentary by E. K. Simpson on Ephesians is truly awful and I cannot understand why it’s rated so highly. Simpson writes in a lofty florid style that really grates, and that hides a lack of substance under a cloak of reverence and piety. Bruce’s 1984 NICNT entry on Ephesians was a needed upgrade; and his straightforward prose and exegetical acumen are far more edifying than Simpson.
