Top Highlights

“The chosen, the highly favored of God, should be prepared for pain and suffering. I think that somehow Mary understood that.” (Page 34)

“Our sin is not what keeps us from God. Our problem is our inability to respond to the love of God and to repent and change. Only one of the thieves did that.” (Page 340)

“God wants us to live on all three of these levels. The first level of forgiveness is simply for survival. The second is the level of gratitude for wholeness beyond health. But it’s at the level of praise where I suspect God’s power can break through in the most dramatic ways.” (Page 253)

“But the far country is the place where you become disillusioned with who you are. You are in the far country at the point where you are disappointed with the world and say, ‘Is this all there is?’ And the Father says, ‘Of course not. Come home.’” (Page 238)

“Mary suffered the ridicule and contempt of being pregnant and unmarried in a small town full of gossips. Knowing all this, she said, ‘Let it be to me according to your word.’ It is surely one of the most courageous statements ever recorded.” (Page 36)

While the author has some good things to say, a great many of his comments are disconnected from the meaning of the text.
