Book Information

This work is intended to serve as a user-friendly and up-to-date source of information on the morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics of Biblical Hebrew verbs, nouns and other word classes (prepositions, conjunctions, adverbs, modal words, negatives, focus particles, discourse markers, interrogatives and interjections). It also contains one of the most elaborate treatments of Biblical Hebrew word order yet pubilshed in a grammar. This reference grammar will be of service to students who have completed an introductory or intermediate course in Biblical Hebrew, and also to more advanced scholars seeking to take advantage of traditional and recent descriptions of the language that go beyond the basic morphology of Biblical Hebrew.

An affordable, indexed study incorporating recent insights of linguistics. [Full Review]
The authors of the present volume already have numerous publications on Biblical and Qumran Hebrew to their credit, and this reference grammar is a worthy addition to their collective oeuvre. Originally published in Afrikaans in 1987, it appears here in English translation with some revisions and expansions. As the title indicates, it is a reference work and thus is intended for those who have already attained a basic knowledge of Biblical Hebrew and who wish to progress beyond an introductory level of familiarity with the language to a more advanced one. It should be noted that it is specifically designed for exegetes and Bible translators, and hence linguistic information is both selected and presented with this audience in mind (9). [Full Review]
