Thompson examines Romans 12.1-15.13 in detail in order to determine whether and how Paul alludes to the Jesus tradition. Part I investigates the meaning and detection of allusions, defines terms and offers eleven criteria for evaluating parallels. There follows discussion of Paul's knowledge of and probable attitude towards the Jesus tradition. The hypothesis that Paul would have been positively disposed towards that tradition is then explored and tested in the remainder of the work. Part II features serial studies of Romans 12.1-15.13 and focuses particularly on verses often claimed to be dominical 'allusions'. Other relevant parallel passages are discussed in the course of investigating the example of Christ.
