The Gold Medallion Award-winning Expositor’s Bible Commentary is a major contribution to the study and understanding of the Scriptures. Providing pastors and Bible students with a comprehensive and scholarly tool for the exposition of the Scriptures and the teaching and proclamation of their message, this twelve-volume reference work has become a staple of seminary and college libraries and pastors’ studies worldwide. The seventy-eight contributors come from the United States, Canada, England, Scotland, Australia, and New Zealand, and from many denominations, including Anglican, Baptist, Brethren, Methodist, Nazarene, Presbyterian, and Reformed. They represent the best in evangelical scholarship committed to the divine inspiration, complete trustworthiness, and full authority of the Bible. The Expositor’s Bible Commentary uses the New International Version for its English text, but also refers freely to other translations and to the original languages. Each book of the Bible has, in addition to its exposition, an introduction, outline, and bibliography. Notes on textual questions and special problems are correlated with the expository units; transliteration and translation of Semitic and Greek words make the more technical notes accessible to readers unacquainted with the biblical languages. In matters where marked differences of opinion exist, commentators, while stating their own convictions, deal fairly and irenically with opposing views. I am not the kind of person to buy a set of commentaries. As nice as they may look on the shelf, the era of encyclopedia is gone. I purchased this commentary because I wanted an in depth, verse-by-verse, word-by-word commentary of Isaiah. As I was searching I learned that what I was looking for was hard to find until I looking into the EBC. Granted I only wanted Isaiah, but the other 3 books are like an added bonus! Very we'll written and helps guide me through when I hit a spot that I just really want some guidance on or to see if I am on the right track. I know people swear by the whole series, but all I know Is that this particular volume is worth the cost!

It was good the commentator referred you to complimentary verses in other books of the Bible. Sometimes he spent too much time writing about other commentators viewpoints or translations only to then write that they didn't change the overall meaning of the text. While it was convenient to have the full Bible text in the book, this made the book very heavy. If you wanted to refer to the complimentary verses he referred to, you still needed to have your Bible with you.

I was getting ready to write a sermon out of Jeremiah and asked another preacher if he could recommend a commentary and this series was one of them. This is one of the most direct and poignant commentaries I have ever read. Some commentaries, though still good, have a lot of "fluff" to them. This commentary on the other hand did an excellent job of getting to explaining the meaning of the text and giving great background and contextual information. I plan to get the whole set!

Outstanding treatment of Isaiah (Grogan) and Jeremiah (Feinberg). Grogan's commentary is lucid and helpful throughout. The commentary on Jeremiah alone is worth the price of the book--it's hard to find a commentary on Jeremiah that is on par with this one. This volume EBC really excels.
